Ross DeWitt, age 61, of Shawnee, KS passed away April 17, 2024 after a brave fight with melanoma. He was born in Denver, CO on April 20, 1962 into the family of Dean and Betty DeWitt. His family later moved to Huntsville, AL in 1966 and then to Florissant, MO in 1969. He graduated from Hazelwood Central High School in 1980 and was accepted to Mizzou in Columbia, MO. Ross completed his degree in accounting in 1984 before moving to the Kansas City area. There, Ross spent many years working for Sprint, selling real estate, and serving as a caregiver for others. Along the way, he collected treasures, cherished time with family, and built a network of friends that would last his lifetime.
Ross lived life to the fullest and had a passion for many hobbies. He was an avid billiards player and enjoyed friendly competition with others weekly. His adventurous spirit grew during his time as an Eagle Scout and transitioned to his love for snow skiing and swimming later in life. In quieter moments, Ross found solace in the art of yoga, finding balance and tranquility amidst life's chaos. His fascination with LEGO transcended age, as he spent countless hours constructing architectural models. Ross was forever young at heart and never missed an opportunity to try something new.
He is survived by his daughter Katie (Bill) Jenny; his siblings Bob (Susan) DeWitt, Deann (Tim) Pasowicz, and Debbie (Chip) Harris; and their families. He is preceded in death by his daughter Morgan DeWitt and his parents Dean and Betty DeWitt. He will be deeply missed by all he knew and loved. His legacy lives on through the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Memorials may be given to Outpacing Melanoma Foundation or Children's Mercy Kansas City in honor of Ross. You can also honor him by joining "Ross' Official Shade Seekers" to walk the Outpacing Melanoma 5K on May 5, 2024.
