Ronald E. Kwasney

November 1, 1941 — February 18, 2023

Ronald E. Kwasney, 81, of Olathe, KS, passed away on February 18, 2023 due to heart complications.

Ronald was born on November 1, 1941 to Stanley Kwasney and Doris Hannah in Massena, NY as the second of six children. Upon joining the US Navy, where he served from 1959-1962, Ronald was placed aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, an Essex-class aircraft carrier, where he did tours in both Japan and the Philippines. At the conclusion of his service, Ronald then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area; there he started a family in Hayward, CA having two daughters, Sharon and Lisa, and began working for General Motors in Fremont, CA in 1962. Years later in 1982, he would eventually transfer to their Fairfax, KS plant, finishing his career working with Delphi, a division of GM, in 2002. Once in Kansas, Ronald fell in love with Letha Wurtz, whom he joyfully shared most of the rest of his life until her passing in 2019.

In his free time, Ronald became a strong advocate for veterans, having great pride in his time served. He also became very active in his community as a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, and served as an Election volunteer every election where he worked to register new voters. In 2000, he became a strong advocate for the construction of Veteran's Memorial Park in Olathe with the mission to "honor the men and women who love their country and have stood in harm's way as sentinels of our freedom." The park was subsequently completed and dedicated in 2001. In retirement, he spent many weeks camping in his trailer and enjoying his boat at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Ronald was a quiet and humorous man who had a heart for helping others: family, friend, and neighbor alike. It was not uncommon for him to mow a neighbor's yard or remove snow from their driveway. In his years in Olathe, he learned to become a strong fan of the Royals and Chiefs much to the chagrin of his Raiders-and-49ers-loving family members. In his final hours, he was disappointed to learn he had missed the Chiefs' Super Bowl win.

Ronald was preceded in death by his spouse Letha, father Stanley, mother Doris, and his brothers Gilbert, Robert, and John. He is survived by his daughters Sharon and Lisa, his sisters Lucinda and Lorry, his grandchildren Brittani, Emily, Zachary, Gillian, Nick, his great-granddaughter Autumn Rose, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
