Ronald A. Fischer

August 7, 1946 — April 18, 2024

Ronald (Ron) Alwin Fischer was born on August 7, 1946 to Edith and Marvin Fischer in Mendota, Illinois. He died in his Tonganoxie, Kansas home on April 15, 2024.

After graduating from Mendota High School in 1964, Ron earned his college degree at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He then began pursuing an advanced degree at Iowa State when he was drafted into the Navy in the early seventies. He served as a corpsman all 4 years at Great Lakes Naval Hospital.

He married the love of his life, Joyce Elayne Engle, in 1966. They were married for 41 years, until her death in 2007. In Ron's words, "She was God's gift to me."

After his time in the Navy, he became a toxicologist in the healthcare field when he moved his young family to Waterloo, Iowa. In 1982 his family moved to Olathe, Kansas where he eventually changed careers and became a software developer.

Ron gave his life to Christ in July 1977 after a divine encounter, and his faith would inform, mesmerize, and delight him for the rest of his days. When he wasn't out to dinner with his kids and grandkids, helping his loved ones, watching Hallmark shows, or hanging out with his wonderful neighbors, Grandad loved studying biblical theology and creation. He was an active member of West Haven Baptist Church.

Ron is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian & Tracy Fischer and Kurt & Laura Fischer; along with six grandchildren: Brianna (Thomas) Wheeler, Zac, Marah, Faira (Mitchell) LaGue, Chulumanco, Benjamin, and William; one great-grandchild, Theo Wheeler; and many others who consider Ron their dad or grandad. Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, parents, and two brothers-in-law: Larry Rice and Bob Sweeney; and is survived by his siblings: Richard (Nancy) Fischer, Ray (Claire) Fischer, Deb Sweeney, Bill Fischer, Janet Engle, Dale (June) Engle, Jean Rice, Duane (Deloris) Engle, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26 at Ascend Church (15865 South Ridgeview Road, Olathe, Kansas) from 12:30-2:00 PM. Celebration of Life service will follow immediately after at 2:00 PM. Burial will be a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Haven Baptist Church and/or The Sunrise House both of which Ron strongly valued and supported.

Services will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person and can be viewed
