Roland Reed

Roland Reed, 90, of Olathe, Kansas died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at his home. He was born February 29, 1924, in Topeka, and was the son of Charles C. and Francis R. Reed. Roland was a veteran of WW II, serving his country as a fighter pilot. He graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for 41 years in the Accounting Department, retiring in October 1983.

Roland is survived by his wife of 69 years, Julia Ann of Olathe; a son Michael J. Reed and his wife, Kristi, of Topeka; two daughters, Ann M. Reed of Topeka, and Kathleen R. Major and her husband, Mike, of Olathe; a sister, Charlene Peterson of Grapevine, Texas; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Roland was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, The Retired Employees Santa Fe Club in Topeka, and American Legion Post #153 in Olathe.

Visitation will be at Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel on Sunday, August 17, at 2pm where the family will receive friends until the Memorial Service which begins at 3pm. Graveside services will be at Memorial Park/Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka at 11am on Monday, August 18.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
