Roger Rector was born April 11, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas, the only child of Ralph and Betty Rector. His father Ralph Rector was never able to see his newborn son as he gave his life in World War II. Ralph Rector was awarded the purple heart posthumously. Roger himself served in the Viet Nam War in the 60's and returned to the Kansas City area to start his family, daughter Stacey, and son, Scotty Rector.
Roger was an accountant in real estate management all of his career, including secretary, treasurer and eventually, president of Gold Crown Properties in Kansas City, Kansas, and president of Sunburst Properties in Overland Park, Kansas. For decades Roger traveled extensively and had homes in Florida, Las Vegas and Kansas City.
In his early years Roger's love of boating took him to the gulf coast of Florida. Later, his love of gambling, especially craps, took him to Las Vegas. Roger was a true gambler who never met a bet he didn't like. As an avid table tennis player, Roger was a participant in the 43rd World Table Tennis Championships in Taiwan.
With an affinity for silk shirts, fine food, and exquisite jewelry, Roger will be remembered by those closest to him as a gentleman, a ladies' man, and a free spirit with a kind heart for everyone.
Memorial contributions may go to the Scott Rector Special Needs Trust Fund. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe on Wednesday, May 12 at 10 AM, funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at a later date in Topeka, KS at Memorial Garden also through Penwell-Gable .
