Roger Lee Ayers

Roger was born in Lima, Ohio, to Forrest W. and Lucy W. Ayers. He was an only child and much doted upon by his grandparents, aunts and uncles. In his youth, he enjoyed vacationing with his extended family in Traverse City, Michigan, on Lake Michigan.

Roger is survived by Dianne, his wife of 50 years. Roger and Dianne met at the Ohio State Branch campus in Lima. Interestingly, they had never previously met despite the fact that Dianne was a regular visitor to her aunt and uncle's house, which was next door to Roger's family home.

Roger enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas for three years. Roger and Dianne married in October of 1967 in Lima. They moved to El Paso where they lived for two years. After his service, they returned to Ohio where he attended Ohio Northern University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1973. Roger worked as a consulting electrical engineer for Black and Veatch for over 30 years.

When they married, Roger gained five brothers and two sisters. Roger and Dianne have two adopted children, three grandsons, and a son-in-law.

Roger and Dianne's family also includes their College Church family. Roger truly loved and appreciated his brothers and sisters in Christ and especially those members in the Ambassadors Sunday school class. This extended family has truly been a blessing to Roger, Dianne, and the family without whom this past year would have been nearly impossible to endure.

Roger loved to hike and to visit national parks. He especially enjoyed Rocky Mountain National Park. Roger and Dianne were blessed to travel the world including visiting: Mexico, Bahamas, Canada, Romania, Thailand, China, Costa Rica, and all but a handful of states within the United States. Several of these journeys across the globe were also work and witness trips.

Roger touched so many lives with his generosity, patience, integrity and love. As his family and friends, we feel blessed that he was a part of our journey and look forward to our heavenly reunion. We do not say "goodbye," rather we say "we'll see you soon."
