Rodney Small

Rodney Bowman Small age 77 from Olathe Kansas passed away on Saturday March 14th 2009 after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Small, three sons: Ed ( Nancy ) of Houston Texas , Mark (Liz) of Olathe Kansas , and Kevin (Christine) of Forest Hill , MD. His twin brother Rodman of Tampa FL, his brother Bob of Amarillo Texas and six grandchildren: Stefanie Clark (Zach), Bradley Small, Alex Small, Garrett Small, Andrew Small and Connor Small.



Rodney attended Pratt High School and Pratt Junior College in Pratt Kansas . He enlisted in the Navy and was in active duty in the Korean War. Rodney graduated from Emporia University in 1957 with a degree in accounting. A Certified Internal Auditor, he was a Director of Audit for the U.S. Inspector General until his retirement in 1989. He coached his sons' baseball teams. He loved to travel with the KC Airstream Club, making stained glass windows for his family and drawing detailed project plans. Since 1993 Rodney and Darlene wintered in Surprise AZ , where he enjoyed spring training baseball. He was a member of the American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Olathe Seniors Serving Schools .



Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm Tuedsday, March 17th at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Olathe, KS. Funeral services at 11am Wednesday , March 18th at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo , KS at 3:30pm . In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
