Roberta J. (Bobbie) Shelton of Kansas City, MO passed away on Dec. 15, 2021 at age 94, at Olathe Homestead Memory Care following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Bobbie was born in Falls City, Nebraska into a family of 12 children. She grew up in the Northeast Kansas City District, and graduated from Northeast High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Shelton, and they were married for a total of 51 years. Bobbie was employed by Farmland Industries for 31 years. She retired as the secretary to the president of Farmland Foods.
Bobbie and Jack moved to Chandler, Arizona in 1985, and lived there for 15 years before returning to Kansas City in 2000. She made the most of her time in Chandler, serving as President of the Chandler Republican Womens Club for two terms, and President of the Chandler Hospital Auxiliary twice. She was elected "1990 Woman of Distinction" by Soroptimist International. She was also selected as Chandler's 1996 "Volunteer of the Year" by the Chandler Area United Way Regional Council.
After her return to Missouri, Bobbie continued her political activity with the Republican Womens Club, and was again recognized for her leadership.
Bobbie had a passion for travel and visited France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Thailand and many U.S. states with her husband, Jack Sr.
Bobbie lived a happy life surrounded by friends and family until the loss of her husband Jack in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Mary Stokes, her son Jeffrey, and her siblings Francis (Doc) Stokes, Frances (Sis) Jackson, Rosalie Lowe, Edna Tyron, Sherry Hodges, Jack Stokes, Mary Barth, and Jane Kaser.
Survivors include her son Jack Shelton Jr., daughter Jill Barnes, her sisters Terry Wood, Bonnie McKague, and brother Ron Stokes, as well as eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 3pm at White Chapel Funeral Home, Gladstone, Missouri, with visitation offered at 2pm.
