Robert D. Rogers of Overland Park, KS passed away on December 25th, 2015 peacefully and in the presence of his wife, children and loving family.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Jean, children Connie Ziegler, David Rogers and James Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his older brother John B Rogers and granddaughter, Katie Rose Rogers. In addition the extended family includes, Chuck Ziegler, husband of Connie Ziegler and grandson Chris Ziegler, Amy Rogers, wife of David Rogers and granddaughter Beth Rogers and Lori Rogers, wife of James Rogers and granddaughters Alicia Smith and Angela Milsom. Bob also had three great grandchildren, Rylie and Logan Smith and Brooks Milsom.
Born in Herington, KS to Walter and Gladys Rogers in 1927, Bob was the 2nd son of six children. Bob was raised primarily in Manhattan, KS and graduated from high school in 1946 after returning from WWII. He served honorably in both WWII and the Korean War aboard several naval vessels. Bob was proud of his service and enjoyed the experience of visiting both memorials in Washington DC recently.
Bob and Jean married in 1948 and remained together until his passing, enjoying 67 years of companionship, providing a model example of love and respect while raising their family.
Subsequent to his military service, Bob attended both Kansas State University and Oklahoma A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Electrical Engineering.
After graduation Bob went to work for American Telephone and Telegraph where he had a distinguished career in communications, living in several states. In 1966 he decided to set down roots in Kansas City to raise his family for the remainder of his 29 years with ATT.
Bob was a significant contributor to may civic entities including the Boy Scouts of America, wherein he served as pack master, leading young men in the Explorer program.
Bob and Jean retired to northwest Arkansas in 1982 and enjoyed more than 20 years living on Beaver Lake where their children, grandchildren and friends enjoyed many wonderful times, some of the most precious memories which are a part of the family fabric today.
Bob was a trusted and appreciated volunteer to the Beaver Lake Department where he made many contributions and longtime friends.
By his entire family, Bob was revered as a man of honor, kind and giving to others in need and a continuous example of how to live life in a gracious and respectful manner. He will be truly missed and loved deeply by each and every one of his family members.
The family will receive guests for visitation on Saturday January 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00p.m.
