Robert J. Mahaffy, 82 of Wichita, KS passed away Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House. A private memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House.
Bob was born August 1, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK to George and Hazel Mahaffy. He graduated from Princeton University in 1951. He then joined the navy and was an officer during the Korean War. During the last weeks of his service, he met Dulcy Renne and they were married in 1954. He spent the majority of his professional career in the municipal securities business, where he was a pioneer in tax-free financing within the healthcare industry.
Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed playing many sports including tennis and golf. He loved music, playing the guitar and spending time with his family, friends and dogs. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dulcy, and his three children; Matt and wife Salli, of Phoenix, AZ, Megan Sutherland and husband Mark, of Overland Park, KS, and Tim and wife Ali, of Leawood, KS. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Shaun, Katie, Kevin, Paige, Beau, Billy, Henry, and Janie.
