Robert (Jim) James Klusman , 66, of Olathe, KS passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's.
He was born in Kansas City, MO on April 19, 1947 to Gladys and Carl Klusman. Jim graduated from Paola High School in 1965 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Graham, in 1968. He received a bachelor's degree in marketing from Pittsburgh State University in 1969.
Jim was an Eagle Scout who spent summers in Canada giving tours to younger scouts. He loved his time outdoors. He also served as a Lieutenant in Vietnam for the United States Army.
Jim was a cherished member of the Olathe and Platte City Communities for many years and, served on the Parish Council of Prince of Peace and was instrumental in the development committee of the Prince of Peace Church in 1990. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jim had a long thirty-four year career with State Farm. He was appointed as a State Farm agent in 1974, became an agency manager in Kansas in 1982 and returned to personal production in Platte City, MO in 1995. Jim retired in 2007 due to his declining health.
He was very involved in the life of his family, coaching many childhood soccer teams, and also helped established the Olathe Soccer Club. He and Barbara were very giving of their time and talents in the church and community.
Jim loved canoeing, skiing, and going to the lake with his family and friends. Above all, he cherished the love of his life Barbara, kids, and grandchildren. Jim loved spending time with his 18 grandkids, dancing, eating ice cream, and making memories throwing his grandchildren in the pool.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Barbara Klusman of Olathe, KS, his parents; Gladys and Carl Klusman of Paola, KS, his four children; Julie (Pat) O'Brien, Jeff (Jessica) Klusman, Kelly (Melissa) Klusman of Lenexa, KS and Ryan (Lindsey) Klusman of Overland Park, KS. Jim is also survived by his eighteen grandchildren and his siblings; Larry Klusman of Louisburg, KS, Pat Lunbeck of Olathe, KS, Gary Klusman of Dallas, TX, and Sharon Bausher of Shumacher, PA.
