Robert Leon Kirkland III, age 81 of Olathe Kansas died peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to Village Shalom or to Kansas City Hospice.
Bob was born August 3, 1929 in Memphis, Tennessee. He spent 45 years in the specialty gas business, owned Nitrogen Air Pressure Company Inc., and retired in 1995. He was an alumni of Memphis State University, and served in the U.S. Army. He was an avid reader and golfer, and a member of Meadowbrook and Rabbit Creek Country Club. One of his greatest pleasures was family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bob Loved life, he never met a stranger, and he especially enjoyed golfing with his buddies and outings with his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pearl Kirkland; daughter, Kim Roles; sister Alyce Latham.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years Lila; son Bob(Nancy) Kirkland of Gardner, Kansas; sister Algine Stanley of Houston, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Amy Ellis, Rob Kirkland, Dennis Ammon, Ryan Ammon, Taylor Roles, and Kelsey Kirkland. 6 great-grandchildren, Robby Kirkland, Jacob Ellis, Kimberlee Hollinger, Cassidy Kirkland, and Brandon Hollinger.
