ROBERT JOSEPH HANSON, 82, passed away November 25, 2012 in Olathe, KS. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd, Olathe, KS. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Community Hospice.
Bob was born on March 16, 1930 in Lexington, MO to Robert Carl Hanson and Emma Louise Heimer. He married Merna Rita Sharp on February 20, 1955, and they made their home in Kansas City before relocating to the Olathe area in 1959. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was awarded Airman of the Month while stationed in Alaska. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Bob and Merna were long-time members of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with Bob serving as one of the first three lay ministers. He was a proud member of the 1946 Lexington High School undefeated football championship team. Bob most enjoyed spending time with his family, and traveling to Alaska.
Surviving are his wife, Merna, his children, Kirk ( Kim) Hanson, Sarah Louise Hanson and Lee Stickle, Eric Hanson, Lisa (Steven) Niner, and Karen Stricker, eight grandchildren; Shelby, Robert Joseph, Jakob, Alex, Sydney, Haley, Blaise, and Maxwell, and German foreign exchange daughter, Dorothee Stork. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Joseph Hanson, his sisters Teresa and Mary, and his life-long friend, Charlie Mussatto.
