Robert Mortimer Hamilton was born on August 6, 1927, in Truxton, Missouri, to parents Albert Mortimer and Lillie Theresa (Holmes) Hamilton. He left to be with God and join his wife, Helen, in heaven on February 7, 2014.
Bob, as he was fondly known to family and friends, grew up in the small rural area of Truxton, Missouri, and graduated from Warrenton High School in Warrenton, Missouri, in 1945. He joined the Merchant Marines after graduation but returned home after VJ Day in August of 1945. In 1946 he enlisted in the Marine Corp and spent two years in Guam. Following his overseas tour he returned home and remained a reservist. On December 24, 1948, he married Helen Catherine Weiss and they made their home in Truxton, Missouri. In 1950 Bob was called back to active duty by the Marine Corp and was sent to Korea for one year. He returned home in 1951 and was discharged from active duty. Shortly after returning home, Robert, his wife and two year old daughter made their home in Troy, Missouri. His daughter, Theresa, was joined by a sister, Lisa, in 1962. His wife, Helen, worked as a medical practice manager for a general surgeon in Troy. Bob drove a truck for Witte Bros. Truck Lines in Troy and later opened a service station business. He also diversified and had a boat dealership and a repair service for boat motors and lawn and garden motors. After selling his businesses, Bob joined Contel Phone Company and became a lineman. He was transferred to Gardner, Kansas, by Contel in 1980 where he continued to work until he retired in 1987.
Bob was a man of many talents. He loved his workshop and built cabinets, birdhouses, various pieces of furniture and whatever else his family requested from him. He loved boating and was good at water skiing and also enjoyed fishing. Horses were another passion and he managed Ridgeview Stables for a number of years until it closed.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Albert M. and Lillie T. Hamilton, his wife Helen Catherine, his brother-in-law and best friend Robert E. King and his niece Deborah King.
He is survived by his two daughters, Theresa and husband Ron Schwendemann and Lisa and her husband David Snow. He leaves three grandchildren, Jill Carrier and husband Jeff, Cory Schwendemann and wife Angela and Ryan Schwendemann and wife Carrie. He was very proud of his six great grandchildren; Jack, Lillie & Maggie Carrier, Kaden & Payton Schwendemann and Mira Schwendemann. He also leaves one sister Ina Mae King, nephew Michael E. King, and his wife Susan.
Bob was very proud of his family and was a loving grandfather known as Padad. He was also very proud of his service to our country as a Marine and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He will be missed and remembered by many. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Attn: Advanced Guard, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
