Richard (Dick) Harrison Wells, 86, of Olathe, Kansas passed away May 30, 2019 at
Olathe Hospice House.
He was born May 23, 1933 to Ralph and Lola (Tucker) Wells in Lincoln, Nebraska,and
graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical
Engineering. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. As an ROTC graduate, he
then served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force until March, 1959, continuing to fly in the
Nebraska Air National Guard for several more years.
After living and working in Nebraska and Florida, Dick retired from Danisco in Gardner,
Kansas, then enjoyed mowing part-time at the Heritage Park Golf Course until 2017. He
fished as often as he could in his off-hours and centered his post-retirement winters in
Florida around fishing. He was an avid follower of Nebraska Cornhuskers football and
Kansas City Royals baseball.
He was married to Virginia Jewett and is the father of their three children. Dick is
survived by his loving daughters, Sherry Schilling (Bill) of Oxford, Ohio and Kathryn
Wells (Ken Johnson) of Camano Island, Washington, and his son, John Wells (Tracy) of
Omaha, Nebraska, grandchildren Ben Schilling (Amanda) of Colorado Springs,
Colorado, Courtney Schilling of Quito, Ecuador, Allison Wells of Iowa City, Iowa, and
Betsy Wells of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in addition to his companion and fishing partner
of 20 years, Jinx Johnson of Prairie Village, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lola Wells, brother Ralph Wells,
Jr., sister-in-law Jerrie Wells and former wife, Virginia Jewett Wells.
A memorial service (casual dress) will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 am
at The Stables at Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 O Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.
