Richard Emerick Wells, 93, of Olathe, Kansas entered into eternal life on Tuesday November 23, 2021. A visitation will be held from 1-2PM Monday November 29th at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 2PM.
Dick was born June 27, 1928 to Clarence and Elva (Emerick) Wells in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Tilden Technical High School in Chicago in 1946 before receiving his Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and then his Master's degree from Northwestern University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in December of 1965.
Dick married Nancy Nason on August 25, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Oak Park, Illinois. They honeymooned their way to Southern California where they purchased their first home and had two children. Dick made his career as an electronic engineer for Ford Aerospace, Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon Technologies until his retirement in 1991. Shortly after retirement, Dick and Nancy followed their first grandchild to the Kansas City area, residing in Olathe and Overland Park for the next thirty years. Dick and Nancy were members of College Church of the Nazarene and Dick was active with Gideons International and served as Vice President of Kansans for Life Kansas City Regional board.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Nancy N. Wells, daughter Carol Wells Dykman (Tim) of Olathe, KS and son William E. Wells of Santa Ana, CA, grandchildren Kristen Wedman (Justin), Bryan Dykman (Sarah) and Jackson Dykman, great grandchildren Crew Wedman, Kaylynn Wedman, Layla Dykman, Cash Wedman, Oaklynn Wedman and Leah Dykman. He is also survived by his brother Robert R. Wells (Ava) of Surprise, AZ.
