Richard Siley

December 26, 1937 — January 2, 2021

Richard Hugh "Dick" Siley, 83, passed away peacefully with his family present on January 2, 2021. Dick suffered a fall on Christmas morning, had emergency surgery, and passed away due to complications in hospital. He was glad to live at home independently on his terms for as long as possible, and never forgot to say "thank you" to the family members who made this possible.

Dick Siley was born December 26, 1937 in Parkersburg, WV to Velma Belle Wilson and Hugh Joseph Siley of Marietta, Ohio.

He graduated from Marietta (OH) High, enlisted in the US Navy and served as a military photographer and analyst in Europe with security clearance, admitting years later to working with the U2 spy plane program.

Dick majored in Television and Radio broadcasting at the University of Cincinnati in one of the first university-level media programs in the country. He moved to Kansas City to serve as Production Manager of KMBC TV9, later serving in the same role at WIBW TV13 in Topeka, Kansas. Dick Siley went on to announce local auto races through the 1970's and 1980's, calling the races at I-70 Speedway for many years. Dick was a Shriner and was the long-time voice calling the Kansas Shrine Bowl.

Dick went to work with Interlace Video through the 1980's providing remote television broadcasting for sports events in the Midwest, and was a staple in Big 12 sports broadcasting - providing many freelance work and networking opportunities for colleagues. He directed countless telecasts for various sports including the KC Royals from "The TV Truck."

He was preceded in death by loving wife Susan Green Taggart and loving wife Nona Shanks Siley. Children include Eric Siley, 50, [married to Laura Tuyet Pham, 46] and Kerstin Siley Kluck, 45, of Kansas City, MO, and stepdaughter Suzy Shanks of Overland Park, KS - who lived with Dick and helped him for several years.

Grandchildren include Erica Siley (23), Aidan Siley (20), Jackson Kluck (10), Elin Siley (8), and Alayna Kluck (7), all residing in Kansas City, Missouri - all of whom will miss "Papa Dick."
