Richard Norman Rutter was known for his larger (literally) than life personality, his often inappropriate jokes, his drive in business, and his courage and conviction within the recovery community.
Despite Rick's many strengths, he was no match for the cunning, baffling, and powerful disease of addiction. Sadly, Rick passed away in his home in Overland Park February of 2022.
Born in Hannibal, Missouri, Rick was the son of Norma and Don Rutter. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and attended University of Missouri, obtaining a degree in Food Science and Nutrition. He was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
In his career, Rick was a brilliant self starter, an efficient leader, and a charismatic sales person. His career highlights include his Vice President of Sales position at Pillsbury, his invention of the Accu-length golf club, and his success at Global Recruiters Network (GRN) where he earned Southwest Manager of the Year.
Outside of his persistence in the work world, Rick was an adventurer and family man. He is fondly remembered for his off-road expeditions, his transitions to "Restaurant Boy" on weekends, his record setting speed at which he ate a sushi boat, and his pranks that always went a touch too far.
He cherished vacations with his kids all through their lives and no matter how many biscuits were burned or rooms locked out of, Rick (aka "Faja", "Dadsday"; "Spoga"; "P-pa") always knew how to make the best of it.
Rick is survived by his sisters Susan Satterlee and Clo Whitaker; his children Rachael Dekoning, Suzanne Taylor, Marshall Rutter, and Morgan Rutter; and his beloved grandchildren Quinn Dekoning, Laine Taylor, and Ford Rutter.
He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Norma Rutter.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 24th at 3:15 in the Leawood Church of the Resurrection in the Wesley Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 4 PM.
