Richard "Dick" G. Rossman, 89, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Children's Mercy Hospital, Lake Mary Center, and Center of Grace Boys and Girls Club.
Richard was born March 6, 1928 in Miami County, Kansas to Karl and Pauline Rossman. He grew up in Paola, KS. After graduation he spent 2 years in the Navy. After the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Kansas on a football scholarship. On August 29th, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Elizabeth (Betty) Crawford in Paola, Kansas. Dick and Betty moved to Topeka, Kansas so he could attend Washburn University Law School. He graduated from Washburn in 1956. He worked for the Kansas State Corporation Commission from 1956-1957.
In August of 1957, Dick, Betty, and Ann moved to Olathe. Dick started work for Standard Oil Company of Indiana. He then went into private law practice. He served as Johnson County Assistant Probate Judge, Probate Judge, Juvenile Judge and Olathe Municipal Judge. In 1977, Dick and Betty purchased Crawford Sales Company, an Anheuser-Busch Wholesaler from her father, which the family still operates today.
He was active in many organizations including; Olathe Rotary Club, Olathe Planning Commission (past Chairman), KS State Chamber of Commerce, Olathe Chamber of Commerce (past Board member), KU Alumni Association, American Legion, Washburn University Alumni Association, Sigma Nu Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta-Law Fraternity, an University of Kansas Football Letterman.
Dick enjoyed traveling, fishing, attending KU football and basketball games with family and friends. He attended as many grandchildren events as possible.
He is survived by his daughter Ann Rossman McCort and husband William, three grandchildren, Maren McCort Marler and husband Matthew, Ashley Elizabeth McCort and Marc Crawford McCort. His sister in law Brunhilda Rossman and five nephews Donald Rossman, Richard " Rick" Rossman, Jeffrey Mueller, Quinn Mueller, Michael Mueller and niece Carolyn Sue Rossman Featherston and grand nieces and nephews.
