Richard D. Reid, 74, of Overland Park, KS passed into the loving arms of Jesus on May 3, 2019.

Rick was born December 8, 1943, in Ellsworth, Kansas to Chuck and Laval Reid. Holyrood, Kansas was the family residence for many years. Life in this small west central town was highly valued by Rick, a town of honorable values, cultivating family-friendly growth and development. He graduated from high school in 1961 and Kansas State University with a degree in Business Administration in 1966. He married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara L. Frohreich in December 1966. They have two children, Amy Dejmal and Douglas Reid.

From January 1967 - December 1973, he served in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of Captain. At Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana, he served as a Deputy Crew commander on a Minuteman ICBM combat crew. He was also the designated Wing Senior Instructor Crew. He also served one year as the Wing Training Officer. He was transferred to Whiteman AFB, Missouri as a Maintenance Officer in 1971. Rick was the project officer to test new maintenance equipment and supervised the Shops Section. He separated from the AF in December 1973. Rick was twice awarded the AF Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

Rick served in Branch Management for Colonial Savings and Loan Assn. in Great Bend and Salina, Kansas for 8 years. He also served as a Regional Volunteer Coordinator with Aid Association for Lutherans in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska for 13 years.

At the National Auctioneers Association, he was the Director of Membership. Rick also worked as a Facility Manager at Bethany Lutheran Church, Overland Park and Monticello United Methodist Church in Shawnee.

He is survived by Barbara, his devoted wife of nearly 53 years, his beloved children, Amy (Dan) Dejmal, and Doug (Becky) Reid; his very loved grandchildren, Hannah and Hallie Dejmal, and Joshua and Abigail Reid; two brothers, David and John; and two sisters; Catherine and Sue.

Rick enjoyed volunteering in retirement. Bethany Lutheran Church, Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries and Cancer Action were among his favorites. He also truly enjoyed driving the motor coach at Claridge Court in Prairie Village, and driving for Grass Pad.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave., Overland Park, KS 66207. The family will receive visitors starting at 10AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be designated to Bethany Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries.
