Richard William "Dick" Pollock passed away on May 31st at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS He was 76 years old.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, golf, cars, shooting, photography and preparing the Thanksgiving turkey for the family every year.
Dick was born on December 26th, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Clara McGinty. He was later adopted in 1953 by Kenneth and Miriam Pollock along with his brother Tom and sisters Susan and Sally after the death of their parents in 1951. He was raised in Fort Scott, KS. He graduated from Ft. Scott High School in 1961 and Pittsburg State University in 1966 where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. Dick married his beloved wife Pam in 1965. After obtaining his Certified Flight Instructor License in 1968 from American Flyers in Ardmore, OK he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in 1968 as an Air Traffic Controller. Dick worked for the FAA for 37 years in Olathe, KS, Washington, DC, and Oklahoma City, OK where he retired as the Branch Manager for Initial Qualification and Training for Air Traffic Control in 2005. He truly loved his work, but took to retirement as if he had never worked a day in his life, and spent his time traveling with Pam to finish visiting all 50 states and making sure his beloved granddaughter Maureen made it to theatre rehearsals on time.
Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Pam Pollock; son Matt Pollock, daughter-in-law Cindy Pollock, granddaughter Maureen Pollock; brothers Tom and Bill Pollock; sisters Susan Gusweiler, Jeannie Rea and Sally Richardson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Clara McGinty and Kenneth and Miriam Pollock.
A celebration of life will be scheduled once the family is able to gather safely.
The family suggests contributions to Harvesters in Kansas City or your local food bank in lieu of flowers.
