RICHARD MARTINEZ

Richard passed away November 10, 2010 in Olathe, KS surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14 from 4:00- 6:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS. A funeral mass will follow on Monday, November 15 at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd Street, Olathe, KS, with Recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 am. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Catholic Charities or to the Heart of America Humane Society. To leave a message for the family, please visit www. Richard was born June 19, 1932 in Tulsa, OK to Joe and Lupe Martinez. Upon Guadalupe's death when Richard was only 3 years old, he was raised by a family friend, Laura Cuttlemeyer and his father, Joe.

He served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, guiding missiles onto the aircraft .

On January 6, 1973 he was married to Marilea Schleicher and in 1978 they moved their family to the Olathe area. Richard, along with his wife, Marilea, was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe.

He was employed with the American Federation of Government Employees and was a four-state Union representative. He retired in 1995.

Richard was active the Boy Scouts of America, and was Scoutmaster for Troop # 3089. He enjoyed all aspects of scouting, but particularly enjoyed teaching archery.

He is survived by his children; Lisa Arney of Sand Springs, OK, Rick Martinez on Marietta, OH, Angela Martinez of Olathe, KS and Daniel Martinez, of Olathe, KS, his sisters Betty Martinez-Nieto of Tulsa, OK, Jo Francine Martinez Watkins of Tulsa, OK, Petra Madrigal of Burbank, CA, Kathy Quick, Houston, TX, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilea, in 2008, his son, Michael Martinez in 1999, his son, Robert Martinez, his brother, Robert "Bob" Martinez, and his first wife, Lena Martinez.
