Richard Raymond Hageman

February 14, 1944 — May 1, 2018

Richard Raymond (Dick) Hageman, 74, left behind this mortal world and entered into the Kingdom of God on May, 1, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family in his last moments, as well as his Pastor.

Dick was a Valentine's Day baby, born on February 14, 1944 to Roland and Dorothy Fritz Hageman. They were blesssed a year later with his dear sister, MaryAnn. He and his first wife, Brenda Hageman West were thrilled to give birth to their son, William Hageman in 1976. After marrying his current wife of almost 30 years, Margaret (Peggy) Merrill Hageman, Dick also gained a wonderful step-son, Anthony McKelvy.

Dick was a great father and step-father to the boys, a wonderful uncle, nicknamed Uncle Duck, to his nieces, Marcia, Tracey, and Samantha, and a loving (and very patient husband) to his wife, Peggy. He will be sorely missed. He had a dry sense of humor, an extradordinary mind, and a kind and gentle demeaner. He had suffered many health issues in the last few years ago but never complained and never got cranky with his family.

Dick graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1962. He attended Kansas State University and graduated with bachelor's degrees and master's degrees in Anthropology and Linguistics. He also attended Washington University in St. Louis and completed everything except the dissertation before leaving school. Dick is also a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Thailand during the Viet Nam years.

Dick held several different career positions through the years. He retired from Butler Community College in 2011 with the title of Professor, Computer Information Technology. Dick also had many hobbies, including Ham Radio, and always pursued them with enthusiasm, learning everything he could. Dick also enjoyed listening to music of all kinds, including The Rolling Stones, jazz, and classical music. His favorite composer of all was J. S. Bach.

Dick was preceded in death by his parrents and leaves behind his wife, Peggy; son and daughter-in-law, Will and Amy Hageman and their two children, Annika and Daniel; step-son, Anthony McKelvy and daughter-in-law, Suzanne and their two children, Christina and Abby; sister and brother-in-law (who was also his best friend), MaryAnn and Sam Finnell; and Dick's precious nieces, Marcia (Bill) Sheehy, Tracey Hampton, and Samantha (Randy) Craig.
