Richard C. Griffith was born November 2, 1928 in Boone, Iowa to Madeline Ayres Griffith and Alfred Eugene Griffith. He passed away on March 8, 2022 at his home in Aberdeen Village, Olathe, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Robert, brother Thomas , infant brother, Billy and his son, David.
The Griffith family moved from Boone, Iowa to Argentine, Kansas in 1938 where Richard attended grade, middle school and high school. He was a member of the USMC andUSMCR from 1946 to 1954. He served in Korea in 1951 and 1952. He attended Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas graduating in 1954 with a B.A. degree. Between college semesters he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a locomotive road fireman.
In 1954 , he married Donna Faye Horseman. Their union produced one son, David, and one daughter, Diane.
In 1977, he married Martha Jean Phelps at the Overland Park Christian Church.
Mr. Griffith was a 33-year employee of Hallmark. During this span of time he served at the managerial level in many of their plants . He was active in community affairs with the Salvation Army, Lions, and Boy Scouts.
In December of 1987, he retired early from Hallmark, and he and his wife, Jean, moved to Prescott, Arizona where he enjoyed golf, swimming, and mountain climbing. They also enjoyed trips to the Bahamas, Mexico, Switzerland, Israel, Alaska, and New Zealand. They moved back to Shawnee, Kansas in 2002 to be closer to their families.
Mr. Griffith is survived by this wife Jean, and daughter Diane Griffith Clark (Scott) of Manhattan, Kansas, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery, March 18, 2022 at 11 a.m.
