Richard Lee Allen

Richard Lee Allen, 76, of Olathe, passed away on December 7, 2023 at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born on August 23, 1947 to Fred and Edna (Heberling) Allen in Kansas City, MO.

After graduation from East High School in 1965, Richard proudly served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Vietnam from 1967-1968, as a member of the 299th Combat Engineers Battalion. Some 40 years later, he was fortunate enough to reconnect with a number of his fellow servicemen.

Upon his return from Vietnam, Richard worked at Kansas City Southern Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2005 as an Accounting Manager.

On June 16, 1979, he married Deborah Lynn Rau, and they made their home in Kansas City, MO, later residing in Olathe, KS.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Deborah "Debbie", son Timothy, daughter-in-law Leah, sister-in-law Vera McPike, brother-in-law Darrell King, brother-in-law Robin Harger, nephews Ryan McPike, Brett (Erica) McPike, Darrell King Jr., David (Carol Ann) King, nieces Vicki Kindred, Leslie Harger, & Laura (Brian) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James (Sonny) Allen, sisters Kathy Johnson & Joyce Harger, father-in-law Fred Rau, mother-in-law Lillian Rau, brother-in-law Randall McPike, and sister-in-law Patricia King.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's name to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), as well as the American Heart Association (AHA).
