Reverend Donaldwayne Frogge

Reverend Donald Wayne Frogge, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. He was born on November 29, 1930, in Climax, KS and was a current resident of Lenexa, KS. His wife of 49 years, Louise, preceded him in death in 2002.

Don's calling and true passion in life was his service as a minister for 37 years. He began his work as an Evangelical United Brethren minister at Upland-Alida Parishes in rural Kansas. His ministry continued in the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church in Horton then University UMC in Topeka, Leavenworth UMC, Old Mission United Methodist Church, Emporia First UMC, Shawnee UMC and Olathe UMC. Even in retirement, Don's faith kept him involved with ministering and providing comfort to people in need. Don served as Hospice Chaplain at both Olathe Medical Center and St. Luke's South Hospital in southern Johnson County.

Don's wife Louise was also his true love and life partner. When they married in 1953, they actively pursued both their faith and their personal interests. In addition to a deep love for family, Don and Louise shared a love of nature. One particular highlight of their personal lives was achieving their goal of hiking 1,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail. They were very proud that this accomplishment came while both were in their 60s.

Don Frogge will always be remembered for his delightfully positive outlook on life, his genuine concern for others, and the deep faith he shared with those around him. Even during Don's illness, he continued to witness and provide guidance as a true soldier of the Lord. His family and those who knew him will dearly miss him, but we can all take comfort in the memory of an exemplary man and a life lived well.

Don leaves three daughters: Karla (James) Slaymaker of Bay Village, OH; Susan (Ernie) Cockrum of Lenexa, KS; and Cindy (Jim) Medina of Olathe, KS. He also leaves his sister-in-law Elizabeth (Jack) Kaufman of Lake Quivira, KS, his niece Jennifer of Overland Park, and four wonderful grandchildren – Arron and Alex Slaymaker, and Sarah and Andy Cockrum.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to go toward "The Pioneer Fund," which was begun with Don's help in the 1980s to establish new churches. Memorials may be sent to "The Pioneer Fund", Kansas East Conference Treasurer, 4201 SW 15th, Topeka, KS 66604.
