Rev. Carl Delmis Erwin, 91, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 after a battle with pneumonia. He was born on February 1, 1929 in Globe, Kentucky to Willis and Minnie (Jesse) Erwin.
He grew up in Olive Hill, KY where he met and fell in love with Alice Joy Brinegar. They moved to Ohio where Kathy and David were born. Alice became a Christian and Carl soon joined her on their Lifetime journey of serving God.
In a miraculous way, Carl felt the call to preach. He had a speech issue, but when he accepted the call, he was healed.
Mark was born shortly after he took his first assignment in Fredericktown, Ohio. His places of ministry included small and medium sized churches always leaving them better than when he arrived. Often that meant building projects or relocation of church or parsonage.
His one desire was to win the lost for Christ. He did exactly that through his writings and cross ministry.
He never knew a stranger and spent his life helping others.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Alice Erwin; children, Kathryn (Don) Walter, David (Becky) Erwin, and Mark Erwin; grandchildren, Alyssa Johnson, Amanda Ayers, Kristen Hill, Erin Rexroth, Ellise Swanson, Taylor Erwin, and Morgan Erwin; great grandchildren, Max Johnson, Abby Johnson, Lyla Ayers, Haley Rexroth, Harper Rexroth, Finley Rexroth, Amarra Swanson, Jayden Johnson, Carter Johnson; and his sister, Emogene Click.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Minnie Erwin; and his brothers, Glenn Erwin, Delbert Erwin, and Wylie Erwin.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 2:00-3:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2020 at College Church of the Nazarene - Uphaus Hall, with the funeral service following at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, KS.
The family requests that contributions in Carl's memory be made to The Nazarene Foundation. An account had been set up to help young pastors start a retirement account with Pensions and Benefits.
