Raymond Joseph Shute, Jr., 67, of Olathe, passed away on August 22, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born on February 9, 1951 to Raymond Joseph Shute and Adeline Shute in Chicago, Illinois. Raymond was the beloved husband of Anka Shute, married for over 47 years. He was the loving father of Raymond Christopher and wife Christine, and the extremely proud and loving Opa to Abigail and Cameron. His wife, Anka, and family meant everything to him, and he was a loving and gentle husband, father, and grandfather.

Raymond enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family, especially his wife Anka, and his grandchildren. Many an enjoyable time was shared at home, and Wii sports games were an especially special activity that he shared with Abigail and Cameron. He also enjoyed traveling, beach vacations for relaxation, golf, photography, trains, and anything to do with new technology.

Outside of family, some of his most proud accomplishments involved activities where he was able to help others. Raymond was a dedicated den father and assistant troop leader for his son's Boy Scouts troops. He was also a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, including Grand Knight for the Crusaders Council chapter at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Parish in Palos Park, Illinois.

Raymond was a Chemist by trade, and worked in the chemical and foams industry for over 46 years. He was recognized by his peers and colleagues as an expert in his field, holding several patents, and enjoyed mentoring, training, and helping the development of his fellow chemists and scientists. He was a member in the Society of Plastics Engineers (Honored Membership), Society of Automotive Engineers, American Society of Testing and Materials, as well as the American Chemical Society. He was invited and provided many technical presentations at society conferences. He also held positions on the Board of Directors for the American Chemical Society regional and national chapters, and a variety of leadership positions with the Society of Plastics Engineers.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Anka, his son, Raymond Shute, daughter-in-law Christine, and grandchildren Abigail, and Cameron. Sister, Susan Vasselli (Shute), and husband Joseph Vasselli, niece and nephew James and Veronica (Zemon). Sister-in-law Monica Boynton, and husband Gerry Boynton, niece and nephew Heather and Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Joseph and Adeline Shute.


A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 27 at 3:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, KS.
