Raymond Dean McWilliams died early Sunday morning, June 11, 2006 at Royal Terrace Nursing Center in Olathe.
Dean was born on August 28, 1919 in Fredonia, IA to Verne & Velma (Shields) McWilliams and raised in Bloomfield, IA. He entered the Army in April 1942 and served in the European theatre until October 1945. On December 24, 1948 he married Jeanne Harl. He owned his own electronics business in Bloomfield until he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in June, 1959 from which he retired in December, 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; two children, LuAnn Jones Revard and Gordon Charles McWilliams; five grandchildren, Walt (married to Young) and Carrie Jones, Justin, Melanie & Braden McWilliams; and one brother, Harold, of Osage, Iowa.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Charles and Robert; and two sisters, Evelyn Kinsinger and Virginia Swift.
Dean was a man of many interests. At a very young age he developed an interest in Ham radio and in later years was named a Life Member in the Society of Wireless Pioneers, Inc. He was an enthusiastic model railroader, with a basement full of layouts. He and his son, Gordon, shared an interest in radio controlled model airplanes, building and flying them as members of the R.C. Barnstormers. He was also a member of the Olathe Masonic Lodge #19 AF&AM and a past Shriner.
