Randall John Drecktrah, AKA Randy Johnson, owner of A Touch of Class Catering, age 60 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on August 31. 2017 at his home.
He was born on December 14, 1956. In his short time on earth, he lived an interesting and colorful life. After graduating Shawnee Mission South High School in 1975, he spent a brief time in the Air Force. He called the VFW Post 7391 in Lenexa, Kansas home for many years where he was the manager. Randy had an interest in cooking that started in junior high and was able to develop that passion into his own business for over 35 years, A Touch of Class Catering.
A Touch of Class gave him the opportunity to have an impact so many people's lives. He was described by one bride as "perhaps the best caterer in the world. He was specific, attentive, extremely helpful and insightful, and above all, had a great sense of humor." He truly loved what he did.
Randy met Vickie Lee Zugelder (Bortzfield) when she came to install DSL. They got to talking and realized he was the caterer for her youngest son's wedding. Randy made sure to dress a little nicer for that wedding, they hit it off, and the rest was history.
Randy had a fun loving, carefree charisma and sincerely enjoyed the comradery of his friends. These feelings were transferred to a new business opportunity - co-owner of One Block East in Belton, Missouri. After Randy retired from catering, he loved having extra time doing his favorite job, being a Grandpa to his 4 grandchildren. Randy was not one to sit idle and soon his adventures lead him to drive for KC Drive Away and then finally to Enterprise. He has always been blessed to employ and work with and for incredible people in everything he did.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Vickie; two sons, Chris Zugelder and his wife Mindy of Overland Park, Kansas and Eric Zugelder and his wife Angie of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Nic, Mackenzie (Karen), Alyssa, and Zander. Also survived by his mother, Marie; two sisters, Sharon and her husband Mark Miller of Lawrence, Kansas and Catharine Murphy of Gladstone, Missouri; two nephews and one niece, Marcus, Morgan, and Megan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Johnson (Brewer); his father Herbert Clayton Drecktrah.
