Randall Scott Hemauer

October 20, 1958 — March 18, 2017

Randall Scott Hemauer, 58, of Olathe, passed away on March 18, 2017. He was born October 20, 1958, to Robert and Dolores (Croegaert) Hemauer in Oak Park, Illinois and grew up in Western Springs.

Randall graduated from Purdue University with an Engineering degree with an emphasis in business management. He began his career in 1984 as one of the original engineers at United Telecommunications, Inc. who designed and built this nation's first, all-fiber optic network. By the time the final splice was made in the northern transcontinental link, the company had become US Sprint Communications Co., and, as the Honorable Alan Wheat of the Missouri House of Representatives read into the Congressional Record on October 20, 1988, "The financial and human commitment of US Sprint, as well as its two parent companies, United Telecommunication, Inc. and GTE Corporation, deserve to be commended for providing us with the launching pad for an information revolution that will help carry our country into the 21st century."

Randall was part of that revolution, a key member of that entrepreneurial spirit that carried Sprint Telecommunications across the globe and into the wireless world we know and live today.

In 2009, Randall's team became part of Ericsson Services, Inc. and continued to support the Sprint account. On December 19, 2014, Randall was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, and despite the grueling treatments he faced with an iron-will, he continued on in his career. In July 2016, however, the stress of his fight and the demands of his job caused Randall to make a difficult decision, and he stepped down as Vice President of Wireless Operations. He continued to fight, truly believing that somehow he was going to conquer this obstacle like any other, but once the cancer breached his brain, his options were limited.

In true Randall style, he fought to the very end.

Randall is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his daughter, Kristin; his stepchildren, Max McDaniel, Valen McDaniel and Delayne McDaniel; his brothers Steve (Janice) and Mark (Jane); and niece and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Dolores Hemauer; and son, Michael.
