Rafael Galvan Segura, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Rafael was born on August 20,1933 in Villa Guerrero, Mexico to Luis and Consuelo (Cuevas) Segura. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 at the age of 19 and settled in KCMO.
To provide support for his family (in the U.S. and Mexico), he worked multiple jobs concurrently including Elko (as a film developer), KC Country Club (as a bartender), for a short time - owned a restaurant, and eventually retired in February of 2000, after 29 years of service from KMBC – Channel 9 news as a cameraman. He then did volunteer work in his retirement for Johnson County Community College and the Shawnee Mission School District.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Yolanda, and his son Rafael.
Rafael is survived by his 3 children (Leticia, Marco and Myrna) and their spouses (Landon, Kathryn, and Ike), 8 grandchildren (Amanda, Alex, Alyssa, Christina, Samantha, Isabella, Olivia and Sophia) and 8 great-grandchildren (Emery, Noah, Amaya, Elian, Adriel, Alena, Veronnica and Charlotte).
The family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
