Rachel Barbour

Rachel Ailine Fike Barbour passed away on July 18, 2013. She was born April 6, 1930 to Lloyd and Edith Fike on a farm south of Spring Hill, Kansas.

In 1933, the family moved to Bucyrus, Kansas where her father ran the Bucyrus Oil Co. Rachel loved to help her dad in the oil delivery business and she drove the truck to deliver gas to farmers at a very young age. Rachel really was a tomboy, and she actually didn't want to be known as a girl at that time, so she would tell people that her name was Oscar. So that nickname stuck with her a long time, even the family doctor called her Oscar.

As a child, Rachel loved sports, especially baseball and the whole family loved to fish, which Rachel did all throughout her life. Rachel attended Spring Hill High School where she graduated in 1948. After high school she worked for a short time at Jetmore Tog Factory in Olathe, but her real career began when she began working at the Johnson County Court House, where she spent 45 years, starting as Clerk and working her way up to the Johnson County Chief Deputy Treasurer. She was well known and loved by all of her co-workers and friends and family.

After her retirement in 1994, Rachel and her husband Reed, whom she married in 1950, enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Bull Shoals and began to enjoy many wonderful traveling adventures in their motor home, and for many years going to Alamo, Texas where they made a host of many close friends. Rachel continued to go even after Reeds passing in 2007. Rachel and Reed were also avid hunters and skeet shooters, which they enjoyed for many years.

Rachel leaves a sister, Betty Fike Miller of Spring Hill, KS; nieces Susan Webber (Tom) of Paola, KS, Patty Warren (Harry) of Fort Scott, KS; a sister-in-law Dorothy Sinderson (Sam) of Pittsburg, PA; and great and great great nieces and nephews.

Rachel will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
