Phyllis Elaine Sampson our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, and friend passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, January 14th at 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church located at 16000 W. 143rd St. in Olathe, Kansas. There will be a visitation and celebration of her life following Mass in the church hall. In addition, there will be a memorial service and committal in West Des Moines Iowa in the McLaren Chapel at Resthaven Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th.
Phyl was born January 31, 1923 in Decorah, Iowa to James and Clara Bridell. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert, her parents, her sister Marge, and her brother Jim.
She is survived by her brother John Bridell (Minneapolis, MN), her son Dr. Michael Sampson (Millie), and her daughters Mary Field (Rob), Jane Cowan (Paul) and Cathy Darnell (Rob). She also leaves grandchildren Jeannie DeVeney (Brian), David Sampson (Angel), Tom Field, Lori Eckerberg (Charles), Ann Hunt (Kyle), Joseph Cowan (Heidi), Daniel Cowan, Kathryn Gaudouen (Hadrien), John Darnell (Tara) and Jake Darnell (Claire). Phyllis was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.
Phyllis was married to Robert Valentine Sampson in 1942 while he was on furlough during World War II. After the war, they moved from Decorah to West Des Moines, IA, where they raised their four children. Following Robert's death in 1985, she moved to Olathe to be closer to her family. Her faith and family were her life.
