Phyllis R. McMurry died following complications from a stroke on February 26, 2006 at her daughter's home in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was born on November 2, 1930 in Ensign, Kansas the fifth of six children of Roy and Iva Hartnett.
She graduated in 1953 from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas with a degree in liberal arts and the title of Milk Bucket Queen (a distinction her children made sure she never forgot!). Following graduation, she joined the U.S. missionary program of the Methodist Church and served in Oakwood, Virginia where she met her husband, Harlis McMurry.
Phyllis worked for many years at Sprint North Supply in Gardner, Kansas until her retirement at age 70 in 2001. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, participating in Bible study and the quilting group. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, particularly weekly Sunday dinners where she was famous for her Jell-O dishes and, on special occasions, deviled eggs.
Phyllis was especially blessd by the attention of many family and special friends who cared fro her following her first stroke in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harlis, her brother Rodney Hartnett and one son, Lance V. McMurry. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Bollin of Osawatomie, Kansas; her son Kevin McMurry of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her sisters Bonnie Rouse, Maxine Hay and Bethine Vice; her brother Arnold
