Phyllis Iles

Phyllis J. Iles, 75, of Olathe, KS, passed away Wednesday April 7, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center. A memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday April 10 at Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe, KS. Friends may call from 10-11AM at the Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Olathe Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary.

Phyllis was born February 15, 1935, in Waterville, OH, to Harold and Helen Hutchinson. She graduated from Anthony Wayne High school in Waterville, OH, where she was a cheerleader, crowned homecoming queen, Miss Waterville and was in many plays and musicals. She then went on to graduate from Bowling Green University in Ohio with a degree in business education. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She married Robert L. Iles in 1955. Phyllis was a devoted mother. She enjoyed being the kids' Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader and was very active as a school volunteer. After her children were grown, she took a job as a reading instructional aide in the Olathe School District. She was involved with her church as a volunteer at the Clothing Closet and the church library. Most recently she has spent her time at Cedar Lake Village playing dominos, bingo, Rummy Cube, Wii Bowling, and playing in the bell choir with her many new friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. If Norman Rockwell ever painted a grandmother, she would have looked like Phyllis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Iles in 2007.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Sarah Iles Johnston and husband Fritz Graf of Westerville, OH, and Christina "Chris" Robson and husband Ron of Olathe, KS, 2 sons Robert "Bob" Iles and partner Eric Rudolph of Walnut Creek, CA, and James "Jim" Iles and partner Wayne Johnson of Denver, CO. 1 sister Nancy Todd of Deerfield Beach, FL, and 6 grandchildren.
