Phillip Dean Ehm, traded this world for heaven on November 14, 2019 at the age of 87 in Overland Park, KS., due to complications from a severe stroke.
Phill is survived by his wife, Peggy, of 61 years; his sister Elaine of Des Moines; his children, Jeff Ehm (Cindi) of Minneapolis, Kris Paulson (Mark) of Cedar Rapids and Alison Balcom (Clark) of Kansas City. Phill and Peggy enjoyed nine grandchildren - Jessie Benton (Grant), Daniel Ehm, Lindsey Purdy (Garrett), Michael Ehm (Martese), Kelsey Bickley (Matt), Jon Paulson (Lynsey), Megan Jackson (Tate), Tim Paulson (Georgia), and Jackson Balcom. He is also the proud great grandpa to four great grand-daughters, Elouise, Madeleine & Olivia Benton, and Tayla Purdy. Phil is preceded in death by parents Henry & Marie Ehm.
Phill was born on August 12, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Henry and Marie Ehm. He married Peggy Oleson on December 28, 1957 in Elkader, Iowa. After completing his first year of college at Grand View in Des Moines, Phillip obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1954 and later a master's degree in economics from Drake University in 1963. Phill began his career with Iowa Power and Light and followed the company through ownership transitions ultimately retiring as a senior level executive with Midwest Resources. In addition, Phill served in the military after graduation from Iowa State and was stationed for a short time in Panama. Phill & Peggy were long-time members of Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale, United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Journey Bible Church in Olathe, Kansas.
Phill was a loyal husband, loving father, life-long engineer, and intentional grandfather. He loved the study of creation and the clear evidence of God's design. We are thankful for his faith-filled life and legacy of kindness, generosity, and love. He was always quick to smile and was an encourager of people.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 AM at Journey Bible Church, 13700 W. 151st, Olathe, Kansas, 66062. Family will greet guests at 10:00 AM. Pastor John Blackburn will officiate. Memorials may be given to Mission Southside, 18335 W. 168th Terrace, Olathe, Kansas, 66062, earmarked Phill Ehm Memorial (MissionSouthSide.org).
