Philip "Rodger" Patterson, 71, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023. He was born on February 29, 1952, in Granby, Missouri to Hugh "Troy" and Emilie (Freeman) Patterson.
Rodger attended Smith Cotton High School and received a soccer scholarship to Central Missouri (University of Central Missouri), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Rodger was in the grocery business for over 12 years in both Missouri and Kansas. In 1988, Rodger relocated to Monett, Missouri with his family, where he was employed for 17 years with EFCO Corporation. In 2005, Rodger moved back to Olathe, Kansas, to be closer to family and started working for Olathe School District.
He was an avid sports watcher, loved playing golf, enjoyed spending time at the lake and swimming in his pool, and cherished moments with family and friends. One of Rodger's greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandkids. He adored every moment, watching them grow and sharing in their adventures, milestones, and laughter. His love and support for his family were immeasurable, and he leaves behind cherished memories and a strong bond that will forever be a part of his legacy.
Rodger was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a loyal friend, and a beloved grandfather. His kindness, warmth, and the passion he poured into every aspect of his life will be remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and always remembered for his witty jokes and positive outlook on life.
Rodger is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 33 years, Deanna Patterson, three children: Jaret Patterson of Lockhart, Texas, Christy Lincoln (Brandon) of Weatherby Lake, Missouri, and Brett Beard (Lisa) of Shawnee, Kansas, and two grandchildren: Stellan Patterson and Emerson Beard. He is also survived by his two siblings: DeAnne Patterson of Granby, Missouri and Kevin Patterson of Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mark Patterson.
The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel, with a visitation following until 7:30pm. Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Olathe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Rodger's memory be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe and The Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS) in Parkville, Missouri.
