Peter G. Rich, 73, Olathe, KS, died peacefully on June 24, 2019. A celebration of life will be held Saturday on June 29th at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Golf Course (11099 W. 135th Street, Overland Park, Kansas). In leu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aberdeen Village (17500 W. 119th Street, Olathe, KS 66061) or the University of Kansas Medical Center Pulmonary Disease Division (3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66160).
Peter was born in Windber, PA on September 23, 1945 and was the second oldest of five children. He attended Windber Area High School where he was a member of the school's basketball and baseball teams. He received his B.A. in Sociology and M.A. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, PA. He was also a member of Pitt's golf team.
In the course of his professional career, Peter was an educator for 12 years with the Pittsburgh, Ferndale, and Forest Hills Public School Districts. He worked for 40+ years in the criminal justice industry. He worked as an operational manager with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (U. S. Justice Department), planner with Correctional Services Group, CEO and president with CSG Consultants, Division Manager with Atlanta-based design/build firm the Facility Design Group, business development manager for Texas-based Creative Corrections, Director of Justice Planning with Hoefer Wysocki Architecture and L. Robert Kimball architecture, and CEO and President of Rich Justice Group. During his career, he completed 227 criminal justice projects in 32 states.
Peter's favorite passions centered on sports. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. He was also a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Kansas basketball team. He was an avid golfer, loved his family and Sci-Fi movies, and enjoyed watching his seven grand kids grow up and play sports.
He spent his first 30 years in Windber, PA. He also lived in Westfield, WI, Springfield, MO, Williamsport, PA, Boulder, CO, Lenexa, KS, Atlanta, GA, Fort Worth, TX, and Olathe, KS. No matter where he lived, Peter built a wide and deep network of friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents Alex and Mary Ann Rich and his older brother Alex. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years Gail (Petrilla); children Jaison (Kim Sigg), Olathe, KS and Danielle (John Adams), Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren (Tanner, Zachary, Matthew, and Sofia Adams and Noah, Lukas, and Grace Rich); brothers Jim (Kathy), Port Bolivar, TX, David (Susan), Fort Worth, TX, and sister Darlene Horn, Avon Lake, OH. Peter had an extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Peter's final words were: "I want to be remembered as a person who lived a great life, had a great family, and good friends. I don't think I could have asked for anything more".
