Paula Drake went to Heaven on January 27, 2020.
Paula was born in Wellington Kansas on September 15, 1954 and lived there until 1967 when her mother Patricia Brumley was transferred by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Paula attended Garden City Middle School and Garden City High School where she was active in many activities including band and theatre. It was in High School that Paula meet Kerry Drake. They were in the same class and both graduated in 1972. Paula attend Garden City Junior College and St. Mary's of the Plains College where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. Paula and Kerry were married May 6, 1978 in Garden City, KS. Paula taught Elementary School at Holcomb, KS for two years. In June of 1979 Paula and Kerry moved to Wichita, KS. Ashley was born in Wichita 1979 and Christopher was born in Wichita in 1983. Paula's family moved to Olathe in 1984 and then to Overland Park in 1987. In 1988 Paula started teaching at Oak Hill Elementary School in the Blue Valley School District where she taught for 25 years until her retirement. During her teaching career Paula earned her Master's Degree. Paula was a member of the Johnson County Young Matrons. She was also active with the Church of the Resurrection. Paula was a good friend who remained very close with her fellow retired teachers. Paula loved to travel and the family has wonderful memories of those fun times.
Paula was the loving daughter of the late Patricia Brumley, cherished wife of Kerry Drake, devoted mother of Ashley (the late Allen) Zugelter and Christopher (Kim) Drake, and adored grandma of Ashlynn, Ryan, Katelynn, Emmalynn, and Dylan Drake. She was the cherished daughter-in-law of Francis Henry, and sister-in-law of Peggy Drake and Litha Drake. Paula was the dear niece of Pat Rawcliffe. Paula also loved her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Please join us in celebrating Paula on Saturday, March 7th, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Church of the Resurrection, Leawood Campus, in the Wesley Chapel. Paula's Inurnment will immediately follow the service in the new Resurrection Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, Johnson County Young Matrons, Ronald McDonald's House or Children's Mercy Hospital.
