Paul Hoffman

February 7, 1934 — July 18, 2015

Paul D. Hoffman, loving husband, dad and Papa passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 18, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Alma (Selko) Hoffman and his older brother, Kenneth. Paul is survived by his wife Shirley, two daughters Terri and Anne, son-in-law Jamie, his three grandchildren Drew, Mady and Brady who were his pride and joy, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rich and Carolyn McKenzie and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul never met a stranger so he is also survived by many friends, neighbors, his daughter's friends, and personnel at the various stores and restaurants he and Shirley visited frequently.
Paul was born in Harvard Nebraska on February 27, 1934. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Central City High School in 1951. He attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1955. After graduation, he served in the United States Army. Paul and Shirley were married on July 16, 1960 and had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Paul worked for The St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company for 29 years before taking early retirement. He continued his insurance career for a few more years with two other insurance companies and then as an independent adjuster. Due to his farming background, he was always active so after leaving the insurance industry, he became a delivery driver for a local sprinkler supply company in Overland Park.

Paul enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains of Colorado. Many family vacations were spent skiing with his daughters in Winter Park. He enjoyed working in his yard, spending time in his flower gardens and feeding his birds.

Paul LOVED sports. He was an avid Nebraska fan and loved watching his Huskers, regardless of the sport. He also loved watching his adopted teams, the K-State Wildcats and Blue Valley West Jaguars due to his daughters love for their alma mater and his grandchildren being Jaguars. He refereed football, volleyball and basketball for 38 years. But perhaps his biggest enjoyment was watching his three grandchildren play sports. He was always in the stands supporting them as he watched them play football, volleyball, baseball, basketball and soccer.

To honor his love for sports and the pride and happiness he experienced while sitting in the stands watching his grandchildren play sports, his family will be purchasing sports equipment and providing scholarship dollars to local youth sports organizations in need. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Paul's memory to this project. If you wish to contribute, checks may be sent to Bank Midwest, Attn: Bradley Gardner, 14735 W. 119th Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Checks can be made payable to Anne Fancher or Terri Hoffman who will coordinate the distribution of the equipment and scholarship dollars to the various organizations.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held August 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the Wesley Chapel at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas. To celebrate his love for the Huskers, please wear something red.
