Paul Anthony Culotta, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022,at the age of 87.
Paul was born at home in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 2, 1935, to father Simon and mother Josephine Culotta. Paul graduated from Central High School, and after spending a year in college, he enlisted in the Army.
He was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he covered sports for the Honolulu Bulletin paper.
After Paul was honorably discharged in 1956, he began his career at IBM, where he worked for 36 years. The highlight of his career in 1960 was when he met a beautiful, young secretary named Judy Mack, who soon became his wife. They married in January of 1961. Paul and Judy raised three wonderful children and during that time, Paul finished his college education and earned a bachelor's degree from Rockhurst University. After Paul retired from IBM, he started his volunteer work at Catholic Charities.
He also worked part-time at Johnson County Community College, where he ran the adult basic education program. In his later years, Paul also volunteered at several Olathe elementary schools and at Olathe Medical Center's Cancer center.
Paul was a great lover of old classic movies which made a lasting impression on his children. Paul also loved traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren throughout the years. They spent many vacations on the road, traveling around the country. Italy and the beach were among his favorite destinations. Paul also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was the most loving father, grand- father, brother, uncle and friend.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judy. He is survived by his sister, Camille Buccero, children Greg (Katie) Culotta, Cathy (Darren) Benton, and Paul (Norine) Culotta; grandchildren Anthony Ealy, Kristen Ealy, Maddie Culotta, Alex Culotta; and great-grandson Jack Ealy, and many wonderful nephews, nieces and cousins.
A visitation and service is planned Tuesday, October 18, visitation from 11:00 am to 12:30pm, with the service to follow, at Prince of Peace, 16000 W 143rd St, Olathe, Kansas. All are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Paul's memory to St. Jude's Hospital or Olathe Hospice House.
