Patrick Whitacre

Patrick "Pat" Lee Whitacre, 62, passed away on 21, January, 2013 at his home in Middletown, New York. He was born on April 8, 1950 in Peoria, Illinois to Gerald E. (Bud) and Bernadine E. (Babe) Whitacre.
Pat graduated from Olathe High School in Olathe, Kansas in 1968. He then attended Kansas University where he received a degree in Psychology. He also received a Master Degree in Biophysics and Genetics from University of Colorado Denver.
He worked in Johnson County, KS in the mental health field for 30 years. He transferred his professional focus from humans to canines and spent the next 8 years working at Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah as a Certified Dog Trainer. He appeared on National Geographic's DogTown. Pat recently worked at Pets Alive in Middletown, New York as a Canine Behaviorist.
He enjoyed his dogs Timber and Kipling, his cats, Buffy and Bright Eyes, good friends, music, rehabilitating the quirkiest cars, hiking, horseback riding, motorcycles, travel, and nation wide animal rescue of the most challenging and fearful dogs.
He was smart, funny, kind, accepting, and loving. He had a natural ability to story tell and a great sense of adventure. He will be missed by family and friends both two legged and four legged alike.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, Gerald E. Whitacre.
Pat is survived by his mother Bernadine "Babe" Whitacre of Olathe, Kansas his brothers and sisters: Mike (Mary Kay) Whitacre of Olathe, KS, Tom (Nancy) Whitacre of Olathe, KS, Jeri (Greg) Biggs of Wichita KS, Tim (Maria) Whitacre of Coppell TX, Kathy (Kirk) Whitacre of Topeka, KS, Lynda (Mike) Long of Germantown Hills, IL; significant other, Sandra Wilder of Kanab, Utah, and 20 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives 9:00-10:00 am, Feb. 16, 2013 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6000 W. 143rd St. Olathe, KS. A memorial service will follow at Prince of Peace at 10:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 16th, 2013. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 15800 S Us 169 Hwy, Olathe, KS 66062.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Pets Alive at 363 Derby Road, Middletown, NY 10940, www.petsalive.com; or Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road Kanab, Utah 84741-5000, http://www.bestfriends.org; or the animal shelter of your choice.

Friends and co-workers of Pets Alive, Middletown, NY will conduct a memorial service for Patrick at Church of the Infant Savior, 22 Holland Ave, Pine Bush, NY at 1:30 PM on Sunday, February 3, 2013.
