August 26, 1957 — March 1, 2024
Patricia (Pat) Ann Wiest, born on August 26, 1957 in Red Cloud, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 surrounded by family after a long fought battle with cancer.
Pat will be lovingly missed by her children, Niki, Justin (Tammy), and Keri (Jimmy); her six grandchildren, Kylie, Cade, Taylor, Callie, Carly and Clay; brother Gary Wiest and family, sister Julie Luce and family; and many lifelong friends that she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Leola Wiest.
Pat was not only a loving mother, grandmother and sister, but a loyal and lifetime friend and caregiver. Prior to retiring in 2022, Pat spent 26 years working as a Para educator and administration support with the Olathe School District. It was here that she found many of her strongest friendships.
Pat will always be remembered for her strength and love for others. Through all of the struggles she faced, not only with her 6 year cancer journey, but throughout her entire lifetime, Pat always put others needs before her own. Her response was often "whatever works for you" when making plans. Her happiness was a result of the happiness she brought to others.
Despite what she was facing, the fear or worry of the most recent blood tests or CT scan, the pain or discomfort she was feeling; a smile never left her face. Even in her very last moments, as she was preparing to leave this world, she provided us with smiles to assure us she was at peace in an effort to bring comfort to us, in true Pat fashion.
Her battle with cancer was fierce and her time with us on earth was cut far too short. However, she requested that "when you think of me, don't cry and be sad, smile and be happy". To honor her wishes, we will be holding a celebration of life on Saturday, March 23 at 9am at Heartland Community Church in Olathe. We invite everyone to join us spending time celebrating the joy she brought to all of our lives. She will be missed greatly by us all but will remain with us forever.
