Patricia A. Shipman, 89, passed away on January 3, 2024, at Aberdeen Village in Olathe.
Patricia was born on December 4, 1934, in Independence, MO. She grew up on a small farm where Olathe Ford is located. She graduated from John P. St. John High School in Olathe in 1952. She began her career at First National Bank. She also worked at Patrons Bank. She enjoyed working in the medical field for several doctors. She retired from the Jo. Co. DA's office as a trial assistant in 1995.
Patricia married Harry Wayne Shipman on December 14, 1952. Wayne preceded her in death in 2008.
She was a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church.
Pat enjoyed gardening, her koi pond, bird watching, going to the Lake of the Ozarks, and her many dachshunds.
Family was extremely important to Pat. She loved having family over for holiday dinners, birthdays, and other special occasions.
Her health began to decline after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's in May 2023.
Patricia is survived by her children, Patti DeGarmo, Mike Shipman (Teri), Sandy Hines (John), her grandchildren, Kelly Young, Jamie Kershner, Clint Hines, Lindsey Rich, and Anna King, her great grandchildren, Logan, Aaron, Jacob and Lauren Young, Azlynn and Graie Hines, Swaye Kershner, and Jenna Rich, and her great-great grandchild, Luca Young. She is also survived by her brother, David Arendale.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Shipman, her parents, John and Leota Arendale, her brothers, John and Jim, and son-in-law, Larry DeGarmo.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and aides at Aberdeen Village and Ascend Hospice for the care they provided to our dear mother.
