Patricia "Pat" Ann Dykmann-Bell, 84, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021. She was born on September 7, 1936 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to Robert and Edna (Gorder) Painter.
Pat lived in Plattsmouth until she married Richard "Dick" Dykmann in 1956 and thus began their years of moving, raising their sons, and moving some more. Dick's job took them to Harlan, Iowa, Omaha and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Colorado Springs, Colorado and then to Kansas. All over Kansas starting in Newton and then to Olathe. Back to Newton, and again to Olathe and then Wichita. Next up was Chicago and then Atlanta. Finally settling back home in Olathe. Through all of these moves, Pat worked tirelessly keeping her sons involved in schools, scouts, and sports. She also made sure to always get involved in music through church activities. She directed choirs, played bells and sang. She and Dick sang at countless weddings, anniversaries, funerals. They filled the house with music.
She found work in both Olathe and Wichita at the district court trustee office, where she enjoyed being a problem solver.
In later years, she could be found with her grandchildren, attending sporting events, musicals, plays and dance recitals. Honestly, if her grandchildren were in it, she was there. She was also the best grandma who would watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at a moment's notice.
She found companionship in 2005, when she married Alan Bell. She and Alan attended College Church of the Nazarene, where they taught Sunday School. They also made many trips to Virginia to visit his family. As she faced declining health, Alan always took care of her.
Pat is survived by her husband Alan Bell; sons, Richard Dykmann Jr. (Susan), Robert Dykmann (Jeanne), Roger Dykmann (Mary), and Ronald Dykmann (Christina). She has 7 grandchildren, James (Melody) Dykmann, Erica Dykmann, Jenica (Josh) Stock, Christen (Brad) Beagle, Noelle Dykmann, Nick Dykmann and Natalie Dykmann. She has 5 great grandchildren; Emma Dykmann, Brooklyn and Oliver Stock, Kierra and Piper Beagle.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Noel Dykmann and brother, Charles Painter. She is survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Snodgrass, Nancy Painter and Robert Painter.
The funeral service will be at 10:00am on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel (limited to 50 people due to COVID restrictions). The family will receive guests for a visitation from 11:00 to 12:00pm on Thursday. Burial will be on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Olathe Hospice House, 15310 Marion St, Olathe, KS 66061.
