Patricia A. Owens

June 11, 1940 — January 29, 2024

Patricia Annette Owens was born June 11, 1940, to Dwight and LaVelle (Berry) Yarbrough in Nashville, Tennessee where her love of music was born. Her family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where she spent the majority of her formative years. She moved to Kansas following her passion for music as a teacher and resided in Kansas until the death of her third husband where she returned to Bethany, Oklahoma to be close to her beloved brother before returning to Kansas as her health declined. Pat graduated from Bethany High School in 1959, received her music education degree from Southern Nazarene University in 1962. In 2002, she received an Advanced Technology degree from Kansas State University.

Pat's professional career began as a school teacher in Kansas and ended in retirement from School Specialty Supply Company.

Pat was married three times, and all three husbands preceded her in death. Lon Hafner, (1969 to 1988), Don Coburn, (1989 to 2004) and Gene Owens (2005 to 2019). She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and LaVelle Yarbrough, stepmother, Alice Yarbrough, brother, Jimmy Yarbrough as well as her very special Aunt Wyoma Gross.

Pat is survived by the children of Lon Hafner, to whom she remained a mother figure from their childhood until her death: Joyce K Hafner of Olathe, KS, Rowena (Jim) Regier of Topeka, KS and Kerry (Joyce R.) Hafner of Bucyrus, KS. Grandchildren: Elizabeth (Chris) Gehri, Matthew Regier, Courtney Hafner, Jared Hafner, Vinnie Lyman, and John Michael Coburn. Great-grandchildren, Eden, Samuel and Dorothy Gehri, Noah, and Emmalyn Regier. She is also survived by many other relatives of Lon, Don and Gene. Her brother's wife Jan (Eagan) Yarbrough and their children Berry (Sandra) Yarbrough, Jolina (Terry) Renyer, Danny (Katrina) Yarbrough, Ronnie (Jenn) Bacon as well as great nephews and nieces: Hayden, Clarissa, Dylan, Landon, Braden, Rainee, Donovan, Desmond, Garrison, Anna, Lily, TJ, Madi and Danika.

Pat's musical abilities were one of her many talents that were a hallmark of her life shared with her family to include her church family at Salina First Church of the Nazarene, where she attended for forty years and served as the church pianist and guitarist for many of those.

Pat enjoyed adventures and each marriage provided new and different experiences. She embarked on the journey of motherhood as an instant mother to two teenage girls and a little boy when she married Lon. She navigated the road and responsibilities of not only raising a family but maneuvering through physical health challenges for Lon and herself.

Her marriage to Don added more adventures and family members. During this season, Don and Pat traveled and played music together, took Dwight and Alice on many road trips in the twilight of her parents' lives as well as providing positive impact in the lives of Don's children and grandchildren.

Not many would like to start a new adventure at the age of 64, but Gene introduced Pat to motorcycles, and she fell in love. She and Gene traveled many miles going on road trips on their motorcycle and/or trike.

During lulls in adventuring, Pat enjoyed staying busy with her hands whether it was working in her gardens, crocheting afghans or other items for friends and relatives, or sewing clothing for her children and grandchildren. If her hands weren't busy crafting or it wasn't gardening season, you would most likely find her reading or doing puzzles.

Pat's life wasn't without physical challenges, and she persevered through cornea transplants and a cochlear implant. She had a great sense of humor and was quick to offer a smile to anyone.

While she will be missed, she is now able to hear, see and think perfectly. Her life was lived to serve God and she was welcomed into His Arms as she passed from this world into her eternal home on January 29, 2024.

There will be a memorial service at First Church of the Nazarene in Salina, Kansas, Friday, February 23rd at 1:30 p.m. Another service will be held Saturday, March 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma.
