John Patrick Gish passed away January 20, 2020 at the age of 82. Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Leawood, KS on Saturday, January 25, with visitation beginning at 9:30AM and mass to follow at 11AM. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
Pat was born May 6, 1937 to Charles and Agnes Gish in Topeka, KS. He married Jean Ann Lierz on April 4, 1959 and had been married 60 years. He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1961. He then began a career in the grocery business. He built and owned Horton Quik Chek, later to become Pat's Thriftway. He retired in 1999. He was an active member of the Horton community serving on the School Board 17 years, member of Horton Country Club, Chamber of Commerce, and St. Leo's Catholic Church. He was a life-long member of 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was a generous donor to many community organizations.
He retired to Overland Park, KS in 2001. He worked part-time for Target and The Links of Lionsgate Country Club. He loved to golf!
He is survived by his wife Jean; daughters Stacey (Rob) McCully of Kansas City, MO, Kristi (Ronnie) Sextro of Horton, KS, Marci (Jon) France of Olathe, KS; son Steven (Connie) Gish of Overland Park, KS; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his vibrant personality, infectious smile and his ability to make everyone feel like a long-lost friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish, or Stacey's non-profit Sparsh Global for the feeding of children in India Slum.
