Opal Klinefelter

January 20, 1934 — July 9, 2015

Opal M. Klinefelter 81, passed away July 9, 2015 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County in Olathe, KS, after battling Alzheimer's for 9 years, she is now at peace.


Opal was born January 20, 1934 in Miami, OK, daughter of James and Kathryn Harrison. The family moved to a farm in New Lancaster, KS, where Opal went to grade school and then graduated from Paola High School.


After high school graduation, Opal moved to San Diego, CA to help care for her Aunt Jean who was ill with MS. There, in San Diego she met her husband Henry F. Klinefelter and were married. In this union they had 3 children and lived in San Diego until 1965 when the family decided to move to Kansas City, KS. Opal started working at Commercial National Bank (UMB) at 6th and Minnesota in K.C.,KS for 30 years and retired in Dec 1994. Opal always waited on her customers with that contagious smile she always had and enjoyed making people happy.


Opal loved being with her family and helping anyone in need. She loved sewing, cooking, gardening and caring for people. She was a member of Welborn Community Church in K.C., KS since 1975 and also a member of Gladiola Eastern Star for 47 years. After retiring from the bank, Opal volunteered at Olathe Hospice where she would just sit and make conversation with the patients. Opal was one of the kindest, giving, and selfless individual you would meet. She was loved by so many and her loss has left such a huge void in many lives.


Opal is survived by 3 children, Richard F. Klinefelter of Shawnee, KS, Kathy (Bob) Hubbs of Olathe, KS, Frances (David) Klein of Olathe, KS and step daughter Connie (Jerry) Carr of Idaho, brother Duane Harrison, 7 grandchildren, Amanda (David) Blanton of Hoschton, GA, Nicholas (Maria) Hubbs of Gardner, KS, Lindsey (Cameron) Cummings of Olathe, KS, Sara (Mike) Morgan of K.C., MO, Allison (Tanner) Brous of Lenexa, KS, Melissa (Mike) Garrett of Manhattan, KS, and Brian (Heather) Hubbs of Gardner, KS, 15 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren.


Opal is proceeded in death by her husband, parents, a brother Claud Harrison, sisters Doris (Harrison) Hermansen and Joan Harrison.


Family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Evergreen Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
