Oma Fae Hendrix

March 25, 1909 — January 16, 2014

Oma Fae Higgins began her life in the small town of Ringwood Oklahoma in the family of Alonzo and Emma Higgins. Emma died when Fae was two years old and Alonzo felt he could not care for Fae and her three older siblings. So Fae was placed in adoption and continued to make her home in Ringwood.
Upon completing High School, Fae enrolled at the Oklahoma State Teachers 'College in Edmond, Oklahoma and concluded her work at Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, Oklahoma. . It was at SNU where she met Spurgeon Lindsay Hendrix and were married June 2, 1935. Fae taught school for six years and down through the years has maintained contact with many of her students.
Fae and Spurgeon served as pastors in Indiana for six years during which time they both became ordained Elders with the Church of the Nazarene. In 1941 they left the United States to begin their 36-year ministry as missionaries serving in Argentina, Cuba, Uruguay and Chile. Their work involved teaching, Bible School Directors, pastors and District Superintendent. Fae and Spurgeon had three children; Arlan Ray, Norma Louise and Spurgeon Leon; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Fae's life was imbedded in the Word of God and she found joy in mentoring and guiding souls to Christ. She led many through her prayer life and wise counsel to find refuge in God alone. Fae was a prolific writer and poet and has composed hymns and written many life stories. She loved to teach the Word and encouraged her students to be life-long learners.
Fae is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Spurgeon, her son Ray, and her great-granddaughter Marrisa.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 2:30pm at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E Sheridan, Olathe, KS, where the family will receive friends at 2:00pm.
